1. Several of the questions have the same theme and it goes something like this…”I’m so busy, what is the best way to use the Adventures in Wisdom tool kit?”

Boy can I relate to that one! As a mother of 9-year-old twins I know how crazy it can be.

Seems like we’re always running to a practice, game, school event, lesson, errand….doing homework, etc. Our days are filled.

So I intentionally designed the program for busy families…

Here’s how:

a. First, the program is very modular…

Each skill is designed to be completed in about 10 to 30 minutes based on how much time you want to spend – and not all of that time has to be contiguous. If you only have 10 minutes, share the story and start the conversation!

b. Second, the audio tool kit is specifically designed for use in the car!

Each audio segment is about 5 to 15 minutes long and is perfect for “car time” during those treks to and from practice, games, errands, etc. Just pop in a story on the way to basketball practice and discuss it on the way home. It’s also a lot of fun to listen to during snack time after school.

c. Third, kids can read the stories themselves…or with you…

The skill books are written at about a 3rd or 4th grade level. Many parents have their kids read a story and then share what they have learned. Of course the audio program works for all ages.

Question 2: Should we complete the skill books in order or can we jump around?

This is a great question! One of the reasons each topic is broken up into a separate skill book was to make it easy to “spot coach” (i.e. if you’re dealing with a particular issues just pull out that skill book and review the story with your child).

That being said, there is a definitely flow to the information.

Here’s what I recommend you do...

Plan to go through the curriculum in order (i.e. one skill book per week) and then spot coach when needed (whether that means jumping forward or going backward).

I also recommend reviewing the full toolkit at least once each year. These are critical skills your children are developing. Practice will turn skills into habits.

Question 3: Are all of the characters in the stories girls?

No – there is an equal number of stories with boy characters as well. It just turned out that the stories we picked out for this three-part series had female characters. Sorry about that boys!
